Entitled, 'The Burial of a Viking Jarl', this scene depicts the common practice of burying a Viking leader within a Viking ship. Based on such Viking ship grave findings, it was common for weapons, horses and even human servants to be sacrificed along side of the leader, possibly in belief to serve him in the afterlife.
The original was painted in 1887 by Carl Schmidt and is believed to be currently held at the Royal Danish Library in Denmark.
