This iron axe pendant was made after a pendant from Finland symbolizing Ukko's axe-hammer.
Unlike the Western Scandinavians, Viking-era Finns did not wear Thor's hammer, but rather a very similarly shaped amulet, the so-called " Ukonvasara " or " Ukonkirves ," the magical weapon of the Finnish thunder god Ukko.
Ukonvasara means "Ukko's hammer," and Ukonkirves means "Ukko's axe." Just like Thor's hammer , Ukko's axe-hammer was meant to generate lightning and thunder. Even today, the Finnish word for thunderstorm is "Ukkonen."
